International Guest Lecture on Disaster Mitigation and Volcano Tourism
The Faculty of Tourism at Udayana University successfully held an International Guest Lecture on Monday, November 20, 2023. The lecture was themed "Disaster Mitigation of Volcanic Eruptions and Volcano Tourism: Learning from Mount Fuji and Mount Agung". The event was held at the Postgraduate Building of Udayana University and was officially opened by Dr. I Nyoman Sukma Arida, the Vice Dean of Academic and Planning at the Faculty of Tourism.
The lecture featured two experts as speakers, Dr.rer.nat. Wiwit Suryanto, S.Si., M.Si. from Universitas Gadjah Mada and Dr. Mitsuhiro Yoshimoto from the Mount Fuji Research Institute. The speakers focused on the planning of pre-disaster mitigation efforts in the Mount Fuji area in Yamanashi, Japan, and Mount Agung in Karangasem, Bali. The efforts included research projects to educate elementary school students in the Mount Agung area and education related to tourism as a potential of volcanoes.
The Faculty of Tourism at Udayana University hopes that the planned project, which will be implemented until 2025, can have a greater impact, especially on tourists visiting Mount Agung, to provide pre-disaster mitigation education. The slogan "We learn, We Survive" is expected to combine vulcanology education and tourism at the same time.
The lecture was supported by the Faculty of Tourism at Udayana University as part of its internationalization program. The program aims to strengthen education, culture, human resources, and social cooperation through friendly international relations with the Consulate General and partners.
